September 2010

Hi Everyone,

Fall is in the air! This morning I noticed that the leaves on the trees in our woods are beginning to change colors.

It has been a busy summer here. We had some work done on our house this summer. The contractor was William Crawford of Log-Pro Restoration of Quackertown, Pennsylvania. I have a link to his website on my Favorite Links Page in case anyone needs this kind work done on a log home. He used a corncob grit to remove surface contamination, debris and coatings on our logs. Corncobs are finely ground and then used like sand to blast log homes with. It is solvent free, environmentally friendly, and leaves a clean and dry surface. We also had some logs replaced or repaired and the entire house was re-stained a lighter shade. The old vertical logs on our peaks were replaced with horizontal logs that match the rest of the house. It was noisy and dirty, but well worth the time and money.

Above are some pictures that were taken while the work was being done.  I've put several new pictures below showing how it looks now that the work is competed.  You can see what it looked like before with the vertical logs in the peak and the dark stain if you go to the Home Page and look at the picture in the upper left corner.

We were very happy with this contractor, especially when he washed all of my windows before completing the job. Wow! A man who does windows! This project was good because it got me going on my fall cleaning as we had to remove all of the pictures and dishes from the outside walls for the project. Everything got cleaned thoroughly before rearranging things!

Plans for fall classes are finished. The project descriptions and pictures are on the Classes Page. I am hoping to have classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings each week. Please check the schedule and sign up at least a week early for classes so I am sure to have enough materials for everyone. I would like to remind my students to read the Class Policies Page to be sure they know what to bring to classes. I carry the water basins, wet palettes, brushes,
and all other supplies in the shop for students to purchase. Below is a recent picture of my cat Callie. She said to say that she is SO GLAD that the noise, dust, and banging is over and she is quite content now taking her morning and afternoon naps without interruptions. She had a very stressful couple of weeks!
I’m looking forward to seeing my students for fall classes and showing them all the great projects we are going to be working on this fall. We need to get started on Christmas gifts early so we get all finished with them by the middle of December and can enjoy the holiday season!

Joanne,
The Teacher
