Another specialty of the shop is the unique and interesting classes taught by
Joanne Mitchell. She has been teaching for over 25 years and enjoys getting to
know her students as she watches them learn her techniques and tips for
crafting. She has taught crafts at the Geneva Recreation Department, Joanne's
Country Crafts, Tompkins County BOCES, and the Gannet School at the Rochester
Museum & Science Center. She has studied with Helen Barrick, MDA, Maxine Thomas, Ros Stallcup,
Ginger Edwards MDA, Tina Sue Norris, CDA, Brenda McPeek, CDA, Catherine
Holman, Barbara Jenkins, CDA, and Kathy Owens, TDA, and many
other nationally known painters and stencilers. She is a member of the Stencil
Artisans League and the National Society of Decorative Painters.
Joanne is also known as Queen Mother of Joanne's Rouge Chapeau
Gang, a Red Hat
Chapter. You can take a ride with her anytime in her
spiffy red hat automobile!!
Joanne
works as a paralegal and has worked on many interesting
cases during her legal career. She always looks
forward to painting or doing needleart or sewing to help
take her mind off the murder and mayhem. Teaching craft
classes has been a wonderful diversion and allows Joanne to
meet some very interesting and talented people, many of whom
have become dear friends along the way.
Joanne
and her husband Ted raised two children, Weston and Nancy,
and during the years they became the grandparents of ten
grandchildren. This also keeps them busy. Their son's
children are all in college this year.
Joanne
also belongs to the Southside Home Demonstration Unit in
Waterloo, a group that her mother belonged to when it was
more commonly known as Home Bureau. This group has given
Joanne many opportunities to teach and to learn from other
members. They've conducted cooking classes, sewing
classes, crafts, and many other interesting projects.
Raspberry Patches' Motto is:
